More than 800,000 Americans called on the Environmental Protection Agency to close loopholes in the Clean Water Act. And in May, they answered by finalizing a rule to restore protections to the more than 20 million acres of wetlands, 60% of streams, and drinking water for 117 million Americans.
America’s institutions of higher education can play a crucial role in the fight to prevent the worst impacts of global warming. Colleges and universities across the country should aggressively deploy clean energy on campus, setting a goal of getting 100 percent of their energy from clean renewable sources.
According to reports, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is expected to begin rolling back state and federal clean car standards. The reports state that the administration intends to withdraw the final determination on EPA’s vehicle emission standards for 2022-2025.
Government and community leaders joined with Environment America and Delaware Sierra Club to highlight clean energy projects in Delaware that have been supported by funding from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI is the nation’s first and most effective regional pollution reduction program. It has helped cut power plant pollution in half by setting limits on pollution, requiring power companies to purchase permits for pollution and investing those revenues in clean energy projects.
“President Trump's order turns the mission of the Environmental Protection Agency on its head: Instead of protecting the drinking water sources for 1 in 3 Americans, he is telling the EPA to stop protecting these waters from polluters. It defies common sense, sound science and the will of the American people,” John Rumpler, Environment America
