New Jerseyans Needlessly Exposed To Airborne Toxic Pollution

New Jersey industries pump hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals known to cause cancer and developmental problems into our air each year, a new report by the New Jersey PIRG Law and Policy Center has found.  Many of these toxic releases could be avoided if New Jersey industries started using existing, feasible substitutes for these toxins.

Pulp Fiction: Chemical Hazard Reduction At Pulp And Paper Mills

Across the country, pulp and paper mills, petroleum refineries, chemical plants and other industrial facilities use and store large amounts of hazardous chemicals that could be released in the event of an accident or terrorist attack. Releases at these chemical facilities could endanger thousands or even millions of people working and living in nearby communities. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), more than 100 facilities each would endanger at least one million people in a worst-case chemical release.

Technologies Can Eliminate Chemical Hazards At Pulp And Paper Mills

Pulp and paper mills that use chlorine or chlorine dioxide to whiten paper needlessly endanger more than 5.7 million people, according to a new report released today by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group.
