RELEASE: Pathogen risks found at 79% of California beaches tested in 2024

Los Angeles – As locals and tourists hope to return to iconic California beaches this summer, a new report released on Tuesday warns that urgent action is needed to ensure that the waters are safe for swimming. In 2024, 79% of California beaches were potentially unsafe for swimming on at least one of the days they were tested, according to Safe for Swimming?, Environment California Research and Policy Center’s latest analysis of bacteria testing.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – As National Pollinator Week – which began on Monday – flies by, pollinator populations across the United States need to be protected from dangerous pesticides and habitat loss. During their related outreach and education efforts, Environment California and CALPIRG found that California is still missing two key policies that other states have adopted -- including one restricting a common chemical.

News release: California introduces bill to use energy more efficiently, promote clean energy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Californian homes and businesses could enjoy more affordable, reliable clean energy moving forward after California Assemblymember John Harabedian introduced AB 740 on Thursday. The legislation would direct the California Energy Commission (CEC) to study the effects of virtual power plants (VPPs) on electricity costs and create a VPP implementation plan. The bill is sponsored by Environment California and Advanced Energy United.
