Environment Colorado

The following is a press statement by Matt Garrington, field director of Environment Colorado, in response to today’s introduction by U.S. Rep.  Diana DeGette (D-CO), U.S. Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), and U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA)  of the Fracking Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act.

“Today is a step forward for common sense and the safety of our drinking water. Our leaders are taking a necessary step to balance energy development with protecting our scarce water resources.”

“It outrageous to allow oil companies to inject toxic chemicals underground without oversight by the E.P.A. or to keep toxic chemicals used in oil and gas fracking secret from the public.”

“ExxonMobil and Halliburton may be used to having their way in Washington, but times have changed. Our leaders in Washington are working to become equal partners with states such as Colorado in taking responsibility to protect public health and the environment.”

“Environment Colorado applauds U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis for taking the lead to help protect our drinking water from toxic chemicals used in oil and gas fracking.”
