Tell the EPA: Protect Lake Erie from toxic algae

NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory | Public Domain

Please demand stronger action from the state of Ohio to stop toxic algae in Lake Erie. Manure from factory farms is flowing into the Lake, supercharging blooms of toxic algae that threaten drinking water and wildlife alike. Yet the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s submitted plan includes no direct requirements to reduce factory farm pollution.

Drinking water for millions, plus priceless wildlife habitat, is at stake. Algal outbreaks threaten public health, and the algae has even killed wildlife and pets. I strongly urge you to reject Ohio’s submitted plan and require the state to reduce the livestock manure pollution that contributes so greatly to Lake Erie’s toxic algae.
