Tell state legislators: Protect Illinois waters

The Great Lakes are a national treasure, but they are only as healthy as the streams and wetlands that feed and clean them. Wetlands help filter pollutants and act as natural sponges to mitigate flooding. Yet, as a result of a recent Supreme Court decision, more than half of our nation’s remaining wetlands and an estimated 57% of Illinois streams no longer have federal protection from pollution or degradation.

For the sake of Lake Michigan, Illinois must act quickly to fill the gap left by the federal government. We should strengthen its protections for wetlands and streams for the clean, healthy water that both humans and wildlife rely on. Urge your legislators to support protecting Illinois waters.
