Beyond plastic

Tell Costco: Get wasteful plastic off your shelves

Staff | TPIN

Costco CEO Ron Vachris,

The jumbo-sized plastic packaging on Costco’s shelves is contributing to a planet-sized catastrophe. More than 8 million tons of plastic pollution enter the ocean every year, where it chokes our shorelines and kills marine animals. Flexible plastic packaging is especially deadly to whales, birds, turtles and other animals who ingest it, because it can get caught in their digestive tracts and cause them to slowly starve.

Nothing we use for a few minutes should be allowed to pollute our oceans and rivers and threaten wildlife for centuries. Costco needs to do more to put wildlife over waste and protect our planet from plastic.

I strongly urge you to take unnecessary single-use plastic packaging off of Costco’s shelves.
