No swimming allowed, but logging is OK?

Why is logging allowed at the Quabbin Reservoir if swimming, camping, cross country skiing, and ice fishing  are prohibited?  We want to hear from you!  Post a picture of yourself to our facebook page- whether you are snowmobiling, horseback riding or playing frisbee, we want to see you doing something that is NOT allowed at the Quabbin Reservoir.

41 cities and towns in Massachusetts rely on the Quabbin Reservoir for their drinking water. The Division of Water Supply Protection is responsible for protecting the quality of the water, and it takes its job very seriously.  Anything that could pollute the water supply system is strictly prohibited, and rightfully so. Then why is Governor Patrick even considering allowing logging in this area? Logging allows giant, diesel-spewing logging trucks to enter the reservation, sometimes right up to the waterline.

We want to hear from you! Take a picture of yourself doing one of the activities not allowed at the Quabbin Reservoir or Reservation, and post it to our facebook page!

All of the following activities are prohibited in the Quabbin Reservation and Reservoir :

  • Driving
  • Cross country skiing
  • Ice fishing or ice skating
  • Snowmobiling
  • Fires
  • Off road bicycling
  • Canoeing/kayaking
  • Swimming
  • Organized sports such as baseball, or Frisbee
  • Horseback riding
  • Collecting/metal detecting
  • Fishing derbies
  • Target shooting
  • Advertising
  • Marking trails or roads

Of course, don’t take picture of yourself doing any of these activities at the Quabbin itself!

Post a picture of yourself skiing, skating, playing Frisbee or doing any other activity NOT allowed at the Quabbin Reservoir or Reservation
