If passed, the bill would set building performance standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from large buildings.
Environment Massachusetts’ Lydia Churchill urged state lawmakers to adopt An Act relative to better buildings (H.3213/S.2178), a bill that would set performance standards for large buildings, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
While the state building code requires new buildings to be built to a minimum energy efficiency standard, there are currently no statewide requirements for existing buildings to become more efficient. The bill was filed by Sen. Rausch and Rep. Rogers.
“Reducing the fossil fuels we use in our buildings will mean cleaner air, healthier communities, and a safer climate for all of us,” said Lydia Churchill, Clean Energy Campaign Associate, Environment Massachusetts. “The Legislature can take a big step toward cleaning up Massachusetts’ big buildings by adopting the Better Buildings Act.”
