EPA announces $7 billion for residential solar grants

Today the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Solar for All competition, which will award up to 60 grants to states, territories, tribal governments, municipalities, and eligible nonprofits to create and expand solar programs for low-income and disadvantaged communities.

Applicants can apply for a small-sized program ($25 – $100 million), a medium-sized program ($100 – $250 million), or a large-sized Solar for All program ($250 – $400 million). Detailed eligibility information can be found in Section III of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

“Thanks to this policy, more Americans will directly experience the benefits of harnessing abundant pollution-free energy from the sun,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center. “The Solar for All competition will reduce pollution, improve air quality and improve public health.”

The Solar for All competition was created through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund created by the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed into law and signed by President Biden last summer.
