About

Environment Montana works for clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife and open spaces, and a livable climate. Our members across the state put grassroots support behind our research and advocacy.

We envision a greener Montana: one that protects more places where nature can thrive, and offers us and our children a greater opportunity to live healthier, more enriching lives. Through our research, public education, advocacy, litigation and action, we advance policies and practices that put our state and our country on a better path.

Our approach

Each of our campaigns shares a common approach, which includes:

  • Putting the health of the environment front and center. We understand that a clean environment is not a mere by-product of our prosperity. Rather, a clean environment is the necessary precondition for a true and lasting prosperity.
  • Winning hearts and minds. Our research and public education seek to build broad support for specific actions to protect the land, air, water and wildlife that sustain and enrich all of our lives.
  • We take a strategic approach. Progress is made one step at a time. Compromise is often necessary to achieve concrete improvements in the quality of the environment and people’s lives.

Our approach delivers results, including growth in solar and wind power, cleaner air, reduced global warming pollution, and cuts in single-use plastics. We study which policies work, how they can be improved, and what it takes to build public support for them. And we’re open to new ideas that could work even better.

Our work

Clean air, clean water, wide open spaces and a stable climate: we’re working to protect it all. Find out more about what we’re working on, and how you can help.

Working together

Throughout all of our work, we endeavor to unite people from across the political spectrum on behalf of a cleaner, greener state.

Our advocates build coalitions that include business owners, doctors and nurses, religious leaders, first-responders and community activists. Our organizers and canvassers engage members and activists across the state. Our advocates in Washington, D.C., work with members of Congress from both parties.
