New energy efficiency standards for common household appliances are moving forward in Washington. A new standard for gas furnaces was finalized earlier this month and today a Department of Energy (DOE)  rule to update efficiency standards for refrigerators and freezer left review of the Budget Department’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

“When it comes to building the energy system of the future, a kWh saved is a kWh earned,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America Research & Policy Center. “The Biden Administration is taking meaningful action that will bring about a greener and healthier future for all Americans.”

This spring, more than 15,000 supporters of Environment America and PIRG weighed in with the Department of Energy in support of a strong rule.
