EmpowerNJ Serves Legal Petitions on NJDOT and NJ Turnpike Authority Demanding Climate Action

 EmpowerNJ, a coalition of more than 135 environmental, faith and social justice organizations, led by BlueWave NJ, Clean Water Action, Environment New Jersey, Food & Water Watch, Sierra Club of New Jersey, Delaware Riverkeeper Network, and Don’t Gas the Meadowlands Coalition  – filed legal rule-making petitions with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (“NJTA”) and the NJ Department of Transportation (“NJDOT”) documenting the failure of those agencies to take action to reduce carbon emissions as required by Governor Murphy.

New report outlines how electric school buses could speed New Jersey’s transition to clean electric grid

Most of the nation’s nearly half a million school buses run on diesel fuel, producing harmful emissions that children are forced to breathe. With the support of the World Resources Institute’s Electric School Bus Initiative, Environment New Jersey Research & Policy Center and Frontier Group are releasing a new report examining how the transition to electric school buses, in addition to keeping diesel exhaust out of developing lungs, could help speed up the expansion of clean energy by providing a critical source of reliable battery storage.

Statement: California Energy Commission releases big offshore wind target

As California seeks to secure a 100% renewable electricity grid to address the climate crisis, the California Energy Commission (CEC) has released their initial Offshore Wind report with goals of 3,000 MW of offshore wind energy by 2030 and 10,000 to 15,000 MW by 2045 with a potential of 20,000 MW by 2050, with sufficient technological improvements.

Exercising his first veto of the 2022 legislative session, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday vetoed HB 741, a bill that would have gutted net metering in Florida. Net metering is the policy which compensates solar owners for the excess electricity they generate and then sell back to the grid.
