America’s oldest church goes solar

The Chapel of San Miguel, an adobe structure believed to have been built by indigenous people from Mexico who came to New Mexico as settlers back in the early 1600s, has gone solar.

The historic structure and its flat roof was deemed sturdy enough to support 20 solar panels which will help reduce energy costs for the congregation.

Faith-based nonprofits can now qualify for clean energy tax credits created by the Inflation Reduction Act to help cover the cost of going solar. The Department of Energy’s website on the Investment Tax Credit as it applies to faith-based nonprofits offers more details on how to maximize the credits.
