The greater sage grouse is a remarkable species unlike any other. Its distinct sound, regal ruff and starburst tail set it apart. But this iconic species is losing its habitat. Since 1965, the greater sage grouse population has declined by 80%.

The sagebrush plains are the only place where the greater sage grouse lives. Losing more habitat to drilling, mining or other human activity would threaten this bird and its wondrous mating display.

More needs to be done to help the fragile greater sage grouse recover. And protecting greater sage grouse habitat will also help other wildlife on the sagebrush plains, including pygmy rabbits, golden eagles and endangered black-footed ferrets.

We, the undersigned, urge you to implement the strongest possible protections for the greater sage grouse population, including designating Areas of Critical Environmental Concern.
