Tell Harrisburg: We need solar for all Pennsylvanians

Westmill wind and solar farm co-ops started as a small group of local people who wanted to make a difference. The co-ops now have almost 4,000 members who together turned those dreams into energy projects that now generate over 15GWh/year of renewable energy and are 100% community owned. All across the state there are Pennsylvanians who want to tap into solar energy to help tackle climate change — but they can’t because they are renters and don’t own the building in which they live, they have a rooftop that doesn’t face the sun or is shaded by trees, or face other challenges with putting solar panels on their roof.

Policies called ‘Community Solar’ make solar energy more accessible by allowing neighbors, businesses, farmers, or other community members to come together to ‘share’ solar power. This will lower climate pollution, clean up our air, support energy independence, and help people save money on their energy bills

The good news is that ‘community solar’ legislation (HB 1842) has passed the Pennsylvania State House with bipartisan support and is now awaiting a vote in the state Senate.

Ask your state senator to support community solar today.
