The controversial Mountain Valley Pipeline has been allowed to resume construction despite ongoing legal challenges. In June, the Mountain Valley Pipeline was fast tracked by Congress as a part of the national debt ceiling deal. Soon after the project was issued two stays to halt construction as the move by Congress was challenged by environmental groups.
This week the court has allowed the Mountain Valley Pipeline continue construction while the legal challenges play out. The pipeline repeatedly has failed to demonstrate safety and compliance with the law. As we saw this week, pipelines are not safe and Virginia’s communities and environment deserve better. Fast tracking this project is bad for Virginia and Appalachia as a whole.
