Washingtonians came together litter clean ups across the state on Make A Difference Day.

We’ve all seen firsthand the impacts of plastic on our communities and wildlife in our state: that plastic flosser on the ground, the little bits of broken up polystyrene foam on the beach, or discarded wrappers floating in the wind. Plastic production continues to increase, yet our landfills are overflowing, and our recycling systems are inadequate, made apparent by low and declining recycling rates.

It can be hard to know where to begin, but we all want to make a difference.

This year for “Make a Difference Day”, we’ve teamed up with campus partners at the University of Washington in Seattle to raise awareness of the problems of plastic while also taking action to clean up our communities and advance state policies that can systematically reduce waste in the first place. We’re excited to bring together folks of all ages to make a difference in our community.
