Exciting news! On Monday, Washington state senators voted a bill that will transition the state to 100% clean school buses. But if the bill is going to become a law, it will need to be voted on by all state senators and pass the Senate Floor by Friday.

In Washington, fewer than 1% of our state’s school buses are electric, meaning most of our state’s operating school buses are creating unhealthy air pollution. Washington should not pass up this opportunity to reduce harmful climate emissions and protect school-age kids from air pollution. Air pollution inside a diesel bus can be 4-12 times higher than outside,  and diesel exhaust has been shown to cause numerous health problems, including cancer, asthma, and bronchitis. And of course, diesel exhaust is a climate pollutant that contributes to the climate crisis.

Zero-emission school buses provide a cleaner, healthier way for kids to get to school. Environment Washington has teamed up with coalition partners to recruit dozens of doctors, nurses, school administrators, parent activists, and student voices to speak up in support of 100% clean school buses for Washington.

Environment Washington urges the Washington legislators to advance HB 1368 for cleaner air and healthier communities.
