A Sign of the Times: Dozens of Influential Corporations Lean into 100% Renewable Energy

Every day we see evidence that the clean energy transition we’ve worked so hard to achieve is underway. Nowhere is it more obvious than the growing number of major corporations making plans to move to 100 percent renewables.

We know we can have healthier communities right now and a livable future for our kids growing up today. But to get there, we must transform the way we produce and consume energy. That’s got to start with a commitment to 100 percent clean, renewable energy.

Every day we see evidence that the clean energy transition we’ve worked so hard to achieve is underway. Nowhere is it more obvious than the growing number of major corporations making plans to move to 100 percent renewables. 53 of the world’s most influential companies, including Google, Coca-Cola, Johnson and Johnson, and Nike have made such commitments. Tremendous credit for this progress goes to the RE100 initiative, a collaborative effort launched in 2014 to build up corporate demand for clean energy.

Why is this important? When large companies opt for 100 percent renewable energy, they create major demand. Perhaps more importantly, they are reinforcing the feasibility and economic benefits of the shift to pollution-free energy.

“The good news is that RE100 companies in every sector have made progress towards their 100 percent goals – or in some cases, have already got there,” said Emily Farnworth, RE100 Campaign Director at The Climate Group

We still have a long way to go. But, the progress we’re seeing should give us the confidence that we can take it to the next level!

Stay tuned.
