Getting to 100% Clean Energy by Putting Sun and Wind in “the Cloud”
Did you know that, if the Internet were a country, it would rank sixth in the world for energy consumption? Greenpeace’s "Click Clean" Campaign highlights the energy consumption of the Internet; driven by the massive energy needs of a rapidly growing number of data centers.
We know we can have healthier communities right now and a livable future for kids growing up today. But to get there, we must transform the way we produce and consume energy. That’s got to start with a commitment to 100 percent clean, renewable energy.
Another great example of this commitment is Greenpeace’s campaign focused on the energy used by the largest internet companies and the tremendous impact their energy choices can have on the move to 100 percent clean energy.
Did you know that, if the Internet were a country, it would rank sixth in the world for energy consumption? Greenpeace’s “Click Clean” Campaign highlights the energy consumption of the Internet; driven by the massive energy needs of a rapidly growing number of data centers. They are putting the spotlight on companies — ranging from Apple to Facebook to Amazon to EBay — and urging them to shift to clean, renewable energy.
The good news is that many of these companies have heard the message and are responding.
To track progress and hold the internet accountable, Greenpeace has developed its Click Clean Scorecard, where you can see if your favorite websites are powered by clean energy! Check out the app and see if your most visited websites make the grade! (Note: Currently, the app only runs on Google Chrome).
We look forward to continuing to work with our allies at Greenpeace to transition America to a 100 percent clean energy future!
