Tell your state legislator: Protect our oceans while tapping into offshore wind
California can go big on offshore wind while also protecting ocean ecosystems.
California is eyeing ambitious goals for how much energy should be coming from offshore wind over the next 30 years.
California is poised to set an ambitious goal for offshore wind off the coast over the next 30 years. Although we don’t have a single offshore wind turbine in the water yet, today marks the day of the state’s energy commission workshop on their proposed goal for offshore wind in California. The result of an Environment California sponsored bill that was signed into law last year.
The draft goal that came out last week proposed 3GW by 2030 and 10-15GW by 2045, with a view to get to 20GW by 2050, pending technological improvements.
Given the necessity to get to 100% clean energy and the urgency to do it as fast as possible, Environment California is calling on the Governor and the Energy Commission to set an even more ambitous goal of at least 5 GW by 2030 and 20GW by 2045 at today’s workshop.
