Dear Craig Jelinek,

Attached is a petition signed by 12,837 consumers from all 50 U.S. states and Canada. On behalf of these supporters, we urge you to rapidly disclose all of Costco’s carbon emissions and set science-based targets to reduce emissions.
Scientists around the world have agreed that we need to cut carbon emissions in half by 2030 to prevent the worst effects of climate change. As a result, many companies have already calculated their carbon emissions and set reduction targets with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Costco has not.
This petition calls on Costco to incorporate the indirect emission caused by its suppliers, which are known as Scope 3 emissions, into the company’s carbon emissions reduction plan. Specifically, the petition calls on Costco to include emissions caused by deforestation in its supply chain, which is primarily driven by the production of commodities like beef, tissues and much more.
Sincerely,
