Americans love the great outdoors, and crave more nature in their lives. That’s why we’re excited to report that, with a little luck and a lot of work, there may soon be a major victory for America’s public lands.
The U.S. Senate voted on June 17 to pass the Great American Outdoors Act, a proposal that combines a consistent stream of funding for conservation ($900 million annually) with a short burst of money ($9.5 billion in funds over 5 years) to make a major dent in the backlog of maintenance projects in national parks and other public lands.
The Senate’s overwhelmingly bipartisan vote — 73 to 25 — shows that politicians can put aside partisan differences when it comes to the great outdoors.
As Congress debates this issue, you can demonstrate your support for America’s public lands by downloading one of the PDFs below, printing it on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, placing it in your home window, and posting a picture of it to social media. If you use the hashtag #greatoutdoors, we’ll see it. Also, please send a photo at [email protected] so we can use your photo on our social media accounts.
Thank you for your continued support of the great American outdoors!
