Meet Colorado’s new wolves
Colorado voters decided to reintroduce wolves. This week, the first group sprinted into the wild.

On Election Day in 2020, Coloradans voted to reintroduce wolves. The voter imposed deadline for bringing them back to the Centennial State? The end of 2023.
So here we are at the end of 2023, and earlier this week, Colorado Parks and Wildlife released five wolves captured in Oregon. Here they are:
- a black colored juvenile female,68 lbs., from the Five Points Pack
- a gray colored juvenile male, 76 lbs., from the Five Points Pack
- a gray colored juvenile female, 76 lbs., from the Noregaard Pack
- a black colored juvenile male, 93 lbs., from the Noregaard Pack
- a gray colored adult male, 108 lbs., from the Wenaha Pack

The agency hopes to release 30-50 wolves from multiple packs over the next five years. Best wishes and good luck to the wolves and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Here’s to hearing wolf howls in Colorado, starting now!
