Renewable energy grows in 2022
Latest data shows renewable energy production is up compared to previous year.

On November 22nd the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its Monthly Energy Review with data through August 31, 2022. The upshot: renewable energy in America continues to grow.
Renewable sources — which EIA defines as solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels, biomass, hydropower — accounted for 13.47 percent of U.S. energy production during the first eight months of 2022. For the same period in 2021, renewables’ share was 12.60 percent.
America has vast renewable energy potential, said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of Environment America Research & Policy Center’s Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy. “While the growth we’re seeing is encouraging, the curve of clean energy adoption should be even steeper so we can power America with clean energy that never runs out in our lifetimes.”
In the first 8 months of 2022, wind topped the list of renewable sources, accounting for 28 percent of energy production from renewable sources, while solar accounted for 14 percent. To see more information about how renewables are growing, check out the Renewables on the Rise dashboard.
