As director, Jennette coordinates policy development, research, outreach and legislative advocacy for Environment Georgia. She has run successful campaigns to designate Georgia’s first outstanding national resource water along the headwaters of the Conasauga River, expand parks along the Chattahoochee River and Jekyll Island State Park, and stop construction of three new coal-fired power plants in Georgia, while also advocating for solar policies that have helped make Georgia one of the top 10 states for solar in the country. She serves on the leadership team for the Georgia Water Coalition, and on the boards of Citizens for Progressive Transit and The Georgia Solar Energy Association. Jennette lives in Atlanta, where she enjoys training for triathlons and hiking and camping in Georgia’s mountains.

Electric School Buses Ready to Roll in Georgia

JONESBORO, Ga. -- Environment Georgia and allies joined the Clayton County School Board and Blue Bird Corporation at the Clayton County International Park’s playground Thursday to celebrate the award of 25 new electric school buses to Clayton County Schools. Federal funds from the Build Back Better Act and the Inflation Reduction Act will help pay for these vehicles.

Analysis reveals lead contamination in Georgia’s school water

ATLANTA – As part of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, Environment Georgia released on Tuesday a new analysis of Georgia’s lead in school drinking water program. The program, known as “Clean Water for Georgia Kids,” was launched in June 2021 by the Georgia Department of Education and RTI International research institute and is funded by the EPA’s WIIN grant. As of early October, only 46 schools and daycare centers had taken advantage of the free lead testing available through the program. Of the testing that has occured, 45% of the samples collected showed lead concentrations above the level recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

Groups tell Biden Administration: Let Older Trees Grow

ATLANTA, GA — Environment Georgia, SELC, Environment America, and dozens of other conservation groups launched an effort Tuesday to focus on protecting mature trees and forests on federal lands that are most critical in the fight against climate change. The Climate Forests campaign is calling on the Biden administration to kick off a new era of climate and forest policy in which trees and forests are valued as key pieces of the climate solution.
