Rep. Kim Schofield introduces bold 100% clean energy vision for Georgia

Imagine a Georgia powered entirely by clean and renewable energy  – this vision is now on the table, courtesy of Rep. Kim Schofield from Atlanta, who introduced House Resolution (HR) 807. This announcement comes after nearly a decade of dedicated efforts from Environment Georgia and its allies, advocating for 100% clean energy resolutions in communities around the state, including the most recent commitment from DeKalb County. Today, nearly 1 in 15 Georgians resides in a community committed to transitioning to 100% renewable energy sources in the foreseeable future.

“I’m proud to bring this critical clean energy vision to the Georgia General Assembly” said Rep. Schofield. “Georgia does not have time to waste, we need to reduce our climate footprint, clean up our communities and put our people to work with good green jobs today.”

Should Georgia pursue further action, it would join eleven other states that have already pledged to achieve 100% clean or renewable energy goals. Collectively, these states represent over a quarter of the nation’s total electricity consumption and will drive a significant reshaping of our energy landscape.

Unfortunately, the timing of HR 807’s introduction coincides with ongoing proceedings at Georgia’s Public Service Commission, which could commit Georgia to increased reliance on polluting fossil fuels.
