Celebrating National Frog Month this April

Restoring protections for Illinois wetlands would be un-frog-ettable.

You may already be familiar with April as Earth Month, but did you know that it is also National Frog Month? Illinois and the Great Lakes region is home to several different types of frogs from cricket frogs which average about 1 inch to American bullfrogs which can be up to 6 inches snout-to-vent.

Wetlands play a critical role as habitat for many Illinois frog species. From egg, to tadpole to frog their lives can span both water and land. A frog’s lifecycle starts as an egg in water, but as adults frogs may spend their time in water, on land or both. Wetlands are typically a site where males chorus during the breeding season to attract females. Unfortunately, Illinois wetland habitat is threatened. Due to a recent Supreme Court decision, many wetlands no longer have federal protections under the Clean Water Act. So this National Frog Month, we are calling on the Illinois legislature to protect the wetlands that many frogs call home.

Join us on April 11th at a webinar all about wetland wildlife, including frogs.
