Baltimore – Environment Maryland today announced its endorsement of Brooke Lierman for Maryland Comptroller.

Maryland has made monumental strides over the past several years towards a sustainable present and future, from enacting one of the nation’s strongest laws to reduce climate pollution to establishing the nation’s first foam food packaging ban. But there is more that Maryland can be doing, and we are running out of time to do so.

With Lierman as the state’s chief accountant, we trust that Maryland’s finances will be in the hands of someone with sincere environmental policy expertise, which is so important for the health and well being of both Maryland’s families and our tax dollars.

“With the effects of climate change right in front of us, we can’t afford to go back,” said Emily Scarr, Environment Maryland’s Senior Advisor. “Leirman has a strong record as a leader on environmental issues including transportation, energy, and waste reduction in the State Legislature, so we can trust, and be excited by, the vision she will bring to the office of Comptroller. Maryland’s Comptroller has more environmental responsibilities than you might initially think. And Environment Maryland is eager to work with her to ensure that investments in climate resilient infrastructure, clean, efficient energy production and public transportation are expanded and expedited. ”
