On Wednesday Governor Wes Moore announced his support for an increase in offshore wind generation in the state to help achieve 100% clean energy by 2035.
Increasing offshore wind generation in Maryland to 8.5 gigawatts will generate enough energy to power nearly three million homes.
A bill to implement this vision and make necessary upgrades to the electrical grid has already passed the State Senate and was passed by the House Economic Matters Committee on Thursday. Next, it will receive a vote from the full House of Delegates.
Passing the Promoting Offshore Wind Energy Resources (POWER) Act (SB781/HB793) will help lower utility bills and reduce pollution that harms our health and the planet.
The legislature has until April 10th to finalize the legislation.
