Howard County votes to go all-electric in new construction
Howard County is the latest municipality to make sure new buildings don't run on fossil fuels
On March 6th, The Howard County Council voted 4-1 yesterday to begin the process of ending the use of fossil fuels in almost all newly constructed buildings.
“Howard County is looking toward a future where we power our lives with clean renewable energy,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of Environment America’s Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy. “Clean energy home technology translates to energy savings, greater comfort and a cleaner environment, inside and outside our homes. I can’t wait to see which county is next.”
With Montgomery County and Washington, D.C having made similar decisions in 2022, today, one in five Marylanders lives in a community whose elected officials are advancing policy to ensure new buildings run on electricity that increasingly comes from clean renewable sources like the sun and the wind.
