Earlier this month, Senators Wicker (R-MS), Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Brown (D-OH) and King (I-ME) became the latest cosponsors of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (S.1149). This makes a total of 16 cosponsors – 8 Republicans, 6 Democrats and 2 Independents. With such strong bipartisan support, it is hopeful that this wildlife protection legislation may move to the floor of the Senate soon.
The bill is a critical lifeline for wildlife. One third of U.S. species are at risk of extinction. From the monarch butterfly and the rusty patched bumblebee to the Florida Panther, Ocelot, grizzly and Sonoran pronghorn, the wildlife that we love is struggling.
Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is a bold vision for funding wildlife conservation. The bill will send states, territories, and tribes, collectively, $1.4 billion annually for proactive, on-the-ground, collaborative efforts to help species at risk by restoring habitat, controlling invasive species, reconnecting landscapes, addressing emerging diseases and more.
Many thanks to the bill’s new co-sponsors for their leadership to protect our treasured wildlife!
