Environment Florida, Environment America endorse re-election of US Reps. Kathy Castor, Brian Mast

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Environment Florida and its national office Environment America announced Sunday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor in Florida’s 14th Congressional District and U.S. Rep. Brian Mast in Florida’s 21st Congressional District.

Rep. Castor earned her current post as the chair of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis by building a strong record as an environmental leader. In June 2020, led by Chair Castor, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis unveiled a comprehensive climate crisis action plan titled “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America.” Since its release, the House has successfully turned more than 200 of the climate solutions in the report into law, while also passing more than half of its 715 climate recommendations.

Rep. Mast has one of the best environmental records of any Republican in Congress, with a focus on an issue near and dear to all Floridians: water quality. He’s worked to protect the Everglades, passed dozens of clean water provisions into law and says he “won’t stop fighting until we reach the ultimate goal: zero toxic discharges ever again.”

“Congress members Kathy Castor and Brian Mast are green champions with a history of turning words into action,” said Environment America President Wendy Wendlandt. “By championing environmental initiatives on issues from energy efficiency to offshore drilling, Representative Castor has made life better for Floridians, and, in turn, all Americans. Representative Mast has done likewise with regard to water quality. We look forward to another two years of Kathy Castor and Brian Mast helping lead national efforts to make our country cleaner and healthier.”
