Environment Michigan, Environment America endorse re-election of US Reps. Dingell, Kildee, Slotkin

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  – Environment Michigan and its national office Environment America announced Friday that they are endorsing the re-election of U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell, Dan Kildee and Elissa Slotkin.

These three green champions have built strong environmental records representing their Michigan Congressional districts in the House of Representatives.

“Michigan is a strong representation of the best the United States has to offer, from the pastoral forests and beaches of the Upper Peninsula to communities working hard to build a more sustainable future. Representatives Dingell, Kildee and Slotkin have helped keep it that way,” said Lisa Frank, the executive director of Environment America’s Washington Legislative Office. “The Michigan delegation’s leadership on a wide area of issues from water quality to conservation is making a difference in the lives of Michiganders, and all of the United States. Each of these dedicated leaders deserves another term to build on their admirable accomplishments to date.”

A small sampling of those accomplishments include:

Rep. Dingell has championed the environment as a key member of both the Energy & Commerce and the Natural Resources committees. She is the lead sponsor of two of Environment America’s and Environment Michigan’s top priorities this session: the bipartisan PFAS Action Act and the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, both of which have passed the U.S. House thanks to her advocacy.

Rep. Kildee has been at the forefront of the fight against toxic chemicals, including lead and PFAS, the compounds known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down. He’s the co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force. He has also recently introduced a bill to protect Michigan families from lead poisoning and has worked tirelessly to ensure Michigan residents can replace lead pipes to protect their health.

Rep. Slotkin has championed several bills to deal with PFAS, especially in the firefighting foam that’s contaminated many Michigan communities. She’s also supported key conservation projects such as securing funding for Michigan parks and the restoration of the Great Lakes.
