A new study finds that used electric cars are now cheaper than their gas-powered counterparts. According to ISeeCars.com (which lists used cars for sale), used electric cars in February cost on average $30,904 while gas powered cars cost on average $31,169.

Many EVs are far cheaper than that. For example, the average used Chevrolet Bolt EV costs about $17,532.38 in the Austin area.

These prices are before the $4000 federal tax credit for which many used EVs qualify. And it doesn’t count the significant savings EVs have on fuel and maintenance costs. According to an analysis by the Washington Post, Texas drivers would save between $21-33 on fuel every time they fill up with electricity instead of gas.

Already more than 260,000 Texans drive EVs and ERCOT projects that number will climb to one million in the next four years. That’s going to save Texans money while cleaning up our air. We’re on the road to an electric future — and Texans are helping drive us there.
