Wolverine reintroduction just needs Governor’s signature
The Colorado legislature has passed Senate Bill 24-171, marking a significant step towards reintroducing North American wolverines to our state.
Right now, there are only 250-300 wolverines left in the lower 48 states. These animals are at risk of forever disappearing from our lands.
This bill, receiving strong bipartisan support, passed the House with a 51-13 vote and the Senate with a 29-5 vote in April. Governor Polis is in support of the bill and is expected to sign it into law.
This legislative victory initiates a multi-year planning process for the reintroduction of wolverines to Colorado. For more details on what comes next, we encourage you to view the presentation from Colorado Parks and Wildlife given at a recent Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Senator Perry Will, Senator Dylan Roberts, Representative Barbara McLachlan, and Representative Tisha Mauro for their bipartisan leadership on this initiative.
