New supporters for an important wildlife bill

Two U.S. Senators joined the list of cosponsors for the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, as the bill continues to gain steam. A big thank you to Senators Marco Rubio (Florida) and Bob Casey Jr (Pennsylvania) for adding their support. 

If passed, the wildlife bill will send more than $1 billion annually to state wildlife agencies for them to protect species in decline. Specifically, the bill funds state wildlife action plans, and every state has one.

A virtue of the bill is that states can begin to recover vulnerable species before their populations fall to emergency levels and require the protections of the the Endangered Species Act. 

To state the obvious, there’s political disharmony in Washington, DC. But our hope is that this bill, with its bipartisan support, can find a way. America at its best has worked together and accomplished important conservation goals. See the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act, which passed in 2020. 

We know that the bill’s lead sponsors, Sens. Martin Heinrich (New Mexico) and Thom Tillis (North Carolina), will keep working to get this bill across the finish line.
