Heceta Bank is hitting the big screen at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

The waters off Oregon's central coast conceal one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the Pacific and on April 30th in downtown Portland, you can learn about it.

Nestled about 30 miles off central Oregon is one of the most biodiverse regions on our entire Pacific coast – it’s called Heceta Bank. Ocean currents combine and mix in a unique way here which creates water that’s so nutrient rich it’s a different color. With this increase in nutrients comes an increase in life, and as a result Heceta Bank provides a home and hunting ground for countless marine species such as humpback and gray whales all the way to tufted puffins.

On April 30th, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is putting the spotlight on Heceta Bank and bringing the wonders beneath the waves right to the Willamette Valley by showing a short film which highlights what makes this place special. The event is being co-hosted by Environment Oregon and Oregon State University which have prepared an expert panel of scientific experts, researchers and advocates who want to raise awareness for Heceta Bank and can answer any questions that arise during the film.

You can learn more about the event and buy tickets here.
